Did you know . . . that the tiny little tag on fruits and vegetables holds a world of info?

•  A four-digit code starting with the number 4 equals conventionally grown and may have been sprayed with synthetic pesticides.

•  A five-digit code beginning with 9 equals organic *

•  A five-digit code starting with an 8 means the food has been Genetically Modified. This number is not widely used, as growers and suppliers are still fighting having to label genetically modified foods. 

•  A five-digit code starting with a 3 means new item and all the conventionally numbers are taken. New # old conventionally grown and may have been sprayed with synthetic pesticides.
